Terrific New Theatre will begin its 2024-25 season in a brand new downtown Birmingham theater space beginning November 21. The 35-year-old non-profit community theatre company has been in search of a new home since leaving its previous space in Pepper Place in 2020 and finally found it on 5th Avenue North.

“It was the 82nd building I toured with a real estate agent. We looked in the windows and could see to the back of the building.

No support poles, no obstructions to deal with, which is really unusual to find in Birmingham.

It was a box, which was perfect for what we wanted to do. It’s a 100-year-old building in great shape.”

TNT’s new space will give the company some resources its never previously enjoyed, including a larger lobby area for pre- and post-show gathering, and a backstage area featuring a shop for set construction. The performance space itself is set in the center of the building, creating extra sound insulation to block out any potential outside noise during performances.

The space wasn’t able to open in time for the normal start of TNT’s theatre season due to construction so the 2024-25 season will be a shortened, four-show schedule rather than TNT’s typical six shows, beginning with the Stephen Sondheim-written musical Sunday in the Park with George.

Tickets are available at the TNT website for all performances of the show except for its sold-out opening night.
