Experience the magic of the Wacky Tacky Light Tour this holiday season
Reading time: 2 minutes
Each year, one of my favorite holiday traditions is driving around to see the Christmas lights put up on houses throughout the city. For 14 years, the Wacky Tacky Light Tour has been offering families a chance to explore all of the craziest and over-the-top lights the Magic City has to offer.
Read on to learn more about this non-profit organization and how they are giving back to the community.
The Fresh Air Family
Founded in 2006, the Fresh Air Family has been offering tours of some the craziest displays in Birmingham for over a decade.
The non-profit hosts this annual fundraiser to support kids wanting to participate in the “Gross Out Camp,”, an award-winning summer program that strives to introduce young minds to science and the great outdoors. With events like the light tour and the help of donors and sponsors, the Fresh Air Family was able to provide more than $62k in financial assistance to help kids.
The tour itself will feature luxury tour buses that will leave every 15 minutes and take passengers on a 2 hour tour to see some of the decorations local families have on display. Here are some of the themes:
- Hanukkah house
- Dueling neighbors
- Star Wars Christmas
- Saddle Up Santa
- Santa’s Trailer Park
“I personally curate the route. My standards are low and hard to meet.”
Verna Gates, Founder and Executive Director of Fresh Air Family
Flashy, glitzy and unbelievably bright
