On Sunday, October 27, hundreds of trick-or-treaters from North Birmingham traveled to Protective Stadium for face-painting, games, photo ops and—of course—trick-or-treating at the third annual Trick or Treat in the Suites, presented by Protective.
Read on to learn more about this inclusive community event and see our favorite costumes.
The 3rd annual Trick or Treat in the Suites at Protective Stadium
Trick or Treat in the Suites is an annual Halloween event hosted by Protective Life Corporation as part of its Protecting Good initiative, launched in 2021 to support Northside Birmingham residents near Protective Stadium.
The event is held for residents in the neighborhoods around Protective Stadium and children with disabilities and medical needs to trick or treat in an accessible, safe environment.
“The enthusiasm for Protective’s third annual trick-or-treat event is truly heartwarming.
We have had incredible support from other local businesses and organizations to make this a fun, safe and memorable Halloween event for all the kids and families in attendance.
Additionally, it’s a great reflection on the Birmingham business community and how we come together to give back to our neighbors in meaningful ways.”
Cary Wahlheim, SVP, Sr. Counsel for Protective
This year, Trick or Treat in the Suites spanned three floors inside the Stadium Club at Protective Stadium. Attendees were greeted by volunteers and handed special Trick or Treat in the Suites tote bags to hold their candy.
Next, the trick-or-treaters made their rounds to candy stands hosted by employees of Protective and other participating organizations, including:
- Alabama Power
- ARC Realty
- Legacy Credit Union
- PNC Bank
- ProAssurance
- Regions Bank
- Vulcan Materials
After filling their tote bags and buckets to the brim with sweet treats, guests returned to the main floor for face painting, photo opportunities, fun games and more.
11 of the best costumes we saw at Trick or Treat in the Suites
1. The Amazing Spider-Man 🕷️
Everyone’s favorite Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man took a break from his busy crime-fighting schedule to trick or treat. Plus, he struck the perfect superhero pose for the camera.
2. A pair of witches 🧙♀️
I spotted a pair of witches leaving the Beetlejuice booth, and I had to take their photo or else risk them casting a spell on me.
3. Batman, the Caped Crusader 🦇
Spider-Man wasn’t the only superhero keeping us safe at Trick or Treat in the Suites. I spotted the World’s Greatest Detective himself looking for clues—and candy, of course.
4. A dentist + a doctor 🩺
Candy is delicious, but too much sweetness can be bad for your teeth. Luckily, a fearless dentist/doctor duo were in attendance to help us enjoy candy responsibly.
5. Harry Potter, The Boy Who Lived ⚡️
Everyone’s favorite Gryffindor took a break from studying for O.W.L.’s and fighting dark wizards to stock up on candy. How comfy does that Gryffindor scarf look?!
6. The R.M.S. Titanic + the Iceberg ⚓️
Watch out—iceberg, right ahead! This mother-and-son costume was one of the most creative costumes I saw at Trick or Treat in the Suites.
7. Gru’s Minions from Despicable Me 👀
Is there a more easily recognizable costume than the Minions from Despicable Me? Luckily, I was able to snap a photo of these two Minions before they left to help Gru steal the Moon.
8. A blood-sucking vampire 🧛
Dressed to the nines and carrying a staff of unimaginable power, this iconic vampire was definitely photo-worthy. I’m just glad I remembered to bring garlic!
9. Woody + Jesse from Toy Story 🤠
Two adorable attendees at Trick or Treat in the Suites were dressed as Woody and Jesse from Toy Story—and they didn’t even coordinate outfits!
10. Shuri + Black Panther 🐈⬛
Shuri and Black Panther—fearless defenders of Wakanda—flew all the way to Birmingham to participate in Trick or Treat in the Suites. Wakanda Forever!
11. Wednesday from The Addams Family 🎃
Wednesday Addams—the youngest member of the Addams Family—took a break from starring in her own Netflix show to stop by Protective Stadium and stock up on sweet treats.
These were only a few of the hundreds of amazing costumes at Trick or Treat in the Suites. Did you attend? If so, let us know your favorite costume by tagging @bhamnow and @protectivelife on Instagram!
