Good news, Midfield!
A new community garden has sprouted for Midfield residents thanks to a generous grant from the Alabama Legislature and Cawaco RC&D, with the help of the Jefferson County Master Gardener Association.
Read on to learn more about how Midfield is fostering community with their new garden.
Providing resources one vegetable at a time
It’s an exciting time to be in Midfield, following its groundbreaking event for the Midfield/Holt Community Garden Pavilion on October 5th.
The park features raised garden beds for fresh food with a pop of color to brighten up the area. The Cawaco RC&D and Alabama Legislature recently provided a $10k grant to build a shaded pavilion that will serve as an outdoor classroom and vegetable-washing station.
The goal of this garden is aimed to foster a sense of growth and provide fresh produce to local senior citizens and nearby neighbors with limited incomes.
“The garden already has accessible raised garden beds for growing fresh food. A $10,000 grant from Cawaco RC&D in partnership with the Alabama Legislature is being used to build a shaded pavilion that will serve as an outdoor classroom and will include a vegetable cleaning station. Fruit trees will be planted later.”
