The Alabama State Council on the Arts is helping Leeds pursue art and liven up the community by providing the town with a grant that aims to foster creativity and support for local artists.

The Alabama State Council on the Arts is a state agency that works to preserve the artistic side of Alabama by supporting various art organizations, schools and colleges around the state.

This competition will be open to all local artists and a committee will then select 10-20 artists to paint the rocking chairs that will be shown off in various locations in Leeds. Each selected artist will receive a stipend and supplies to cover the materials. The artist will have until January 21st to paint and decorate the chairs for both creativity and durability.

The rocking chairs will then be displayed in February of 2025 and auctioned off within the community.

“I’m thrilled about the upcoming rocking chair art project and the opportunity it presents to bring more creativity and beauty to Leeds. I believe this project can spark a vibrant wave of artistic expression, inspiring both locals and visitors alike, and fostering a deeper appreciation for art in our community.”

Kristy Biddle, Executive Director, Main Street Leeds
