5 new + coming soon businesses in the Birmingham area, including a new surf club

Welcome to another week, Birmingham!

This month has welcomed several new businesses and a few to look forward to later this year. From a new locally-owned downtown coffee shop to an Atlanta-based Chinese restaurant opening later this year, check out what’s new and coming soon in The Magic City this week.

1. Surf Hound | Lane Parke

Abhi Sainju—the chef behind Abhi Eatery + Bar and Maro—has opened his newest restaurant in Birmingham. Dubbed Surf Hound, the restaurant is inspired by 1960-1970’s surf culture and coastal towns from around the world.

The menu features classics like burgers and fries, a variety of fresh-caught fish and plenty of delicious cocktails that will make you feel like you’re relaxing by the sea.

2. Bandido Coffee | Five Points

Birmingham’s newest coffee shop, Bandido Coffee, is now open.

Located in the former home of Panache by Domestique Coffee, the shop is owned and operated by local entrepreneur Raul Chavez of Fade Parlor. The café offers beverages inspired by Latin culture, like horchata and aqua fresca.

3. The Marble Ring & Asian Bistro | Avondale

Avondale’s most top-secret club, The Marble Ring, will now be offering a food menu in addition to its classic array of cocktails.

According to a recent Facebook post, the owners of Umami and Nori are introducing a taste of Asian cuisine to The Marble Ring. The bar’s classy, speakeasy aesthetic combines with modern Asian fusion for a one-of-a-kind experience.

4. Provision Studio | Pepper Place

Homewood’s Provision Studio is gearing up to open its second location in Pepper Place.

The fitness studio offers a variety of low impact exercise through Pilates, weights, cardio and more. Choose between small group classes or private and semi-private lessons with Provision’s skilled instructors.

5. Urban Hai | Homewood

Urban Hai, an Atlanta-based authentic Chinese restaurant, is coming soon to downtown Homewood. The restaurant specializes in traditional dishes and Szechuan-style cuisine.

Owned by renowned chef Hai Wang and restaurateur Gary Lin, last month the duo announced plans to open up their first Urban Hai at the Denham Building in Birmingham’s Parkside neighborhood near Railroad Park.
