A member of the third cohort of The New York Times Corps
Today, the New York Times announced its third cohort of The New York Times Corps, a talent-mentorship program which pairs a Times journalist mentor with undergraduates pursuing journalism.
The program is a unique opportunity for these students to develop their skills, receive career-building advice and form a professional relationship with their mentor.
Only 20 students from around the country are selected. This year, two students from Alabama colleges made the list:
- Maven Navarro of the University of Alabama
- Jordyn Davis of Samford University
“I am beyond thrilled to be joining this highly esteemed corps. I have a passion for journalism and being able to learn from some of the best in the field is such a blessing. I can’t wait to meet my mentor and learn how to take my journalism career to new heights.”
Jordyn Davis
Jordyn will be paired with Cicely Wedgeworth, senior staff editor for the Washington bureau of the Times.
About Jordyn Davis
Originally from Inverness, Florida, Jordyn is currently a Junior at Samford University pursuing a Bachelors in Journalism/Mass Communication with a minor in Spanish.
“I’ve been writing stories since I was about twelve years old. From poetry to short stories, writing is truly a way to express my emotions and creativity.
When I was in middle school, I remember writing about the Holocaust and my teacher said that I needed to apply for the International Baccalaureate program, where I would be able to further my interest.”
Jordyn Davis
Jordyn joined Bham Now as an intern earlier this year and has become an invaluable member of the team.
“We are proud of Jordyn Davis’s acceptance into The New York Times Corps. Jordyn has done a great job interning with us at Bham Now. We look forward to watching her future career growth.”
