Sunshine’s Bakery is owned by the husband and wife team Sunshine Dang and Ronald Williamson. We visited them on their first day of operation — a soft opening on Sept. 6.

Sunshine and Ronald said the bakery’s main focus will be on pastries, breads and cookies. In the coming days, they will be adding coffee to their lineup.

The shop, which has a view of the Irondale’s iconic railroad tracks, is an ideal place to either pick up a breakfast or hang out with neighbors.

Sunshine described the vibe they are hoping to achieve.

“When I was a kid in Vietnam, we always went to a local shop close to our house to pick up some treats. It felt like a family — people greeting you and making you feel very welcome. So I really want to bring that to Irondale and Birmingham.I feel like we need something like that. We need a place where you can come and you feel comfortable.”

For the next few weeks, the bakery plans to open in the mornings at 9:00AM and close at 5:00PM from Tuesday to Saturday. They intend to open at 7AM once they get the rhythm of the shop and the needs of their customers.

According to Ronald, once they get their sign installed the community can expect a big grand opening. If everything goes as planned, that will be this Fall.
