Hoover’s newest nature addition

This new park has been a goal of State Representative Mike Shaw for a number of years.

Now, his vision is finally being realized. Today’s groundbreaking was just one of three phases of construction, which will see roughly 20 acres redeveloped.

The funding of this new nature getaway came about through a combination of city funds and legislative funds, resulting in a partnership between Hoover, Rep. Mike Shaw and Senator Jabo Waggoner.

In fact, Representative Shaw committed $20k and Hoover matched this number in order to build a parking area, enhanced trail design and vegetative management.

According to Frank Brocato, the Mayor of Hoover, this trail will help ensure the city has plenty of ways to get outside and be active.

“The City of Hoover is dedicated to making sure we have the best quality of life for our citizens and that includes more green ways like this trail.

In this phase of development, Loch Haven Park—which already includes a dog park, playground, and paved walking trail—will be adding an .8 mile nature trail as well as a 2-acre shaded gathering area.”
