This past week, six new building permits were issued across the state for construction projects exceeding $1 million. These included projects primarily in the Huntsville and Birmingham metros.

A renovation project at the Aloft Hotel in Homewood was among the priciest of these permits, with a $3.8 million permit issued to Pinkerton & Laws Construction of Atlanta.

The 111-room hotel in Downtown Homewood, was recently acquired by Opelika-based PHD Hotels.

According to Marriott, renovations include:

Systemic updates for all guest rooms
Building-wide utility and infrastructure upgrades
Modernizing the room flow
