Looking to pursue a Master of Business Administration degree online? Auburn University’s Online MBA recently dropped the GMAT/GRE requirement for its admissions process.

Bham Now spoke with the Director of Graduate Recruiting for the Auburn University Harbert College of Business to learn more about this change and why it matters for MBA candidates.

Auburn’s Online MBA drops GMAT/GRE requirement

Auburn’s Online MBA program, one of the oldest and most highly-ranked in the nation, gives students access to the same teachers, courses and resources as its traditional MBA.

Until recently, the Online MBA application required a bachelor’s degree, GMAT or GRE test scores and preferred at least two years of professional experience.

The GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) and GRE (Graduate Record Examination) are standardized tests used for admissions to graduate programs. Both exams help schools assess a candidate’s readiness for graduate-level academic work.

“At the Harbert College of Business, we decided to eliminate any test score requirements from our Online MBA program.

Post COVID, we introduced a GMAT/GRE waiver policy and admitted many students without a test score over the past two years. We’ve been able to monitor their progress and seen that they’ve been successful in our program.

Now, we’re excited to elimate that barrier and open up access to allow potential Online MBA candidates to apply without having to take a standardized test.”

According to Jordan, Auburn’s Online MBA students typically average seven to eight years of work experience; so taking a standardized test is likely the last thing on their mind.

“Auburn prides itself on having a flexible Online MBA program, so we are thrilled to make our application process and admissions process more accessible.

I am excited for prospective students to be able to log in and complete their application quickily without that barrier to entry.”

When Auburn began offering its MBA at a distance over 30 years ago, classes were recorded on VHS and mailed to students.

Now, Auburn’s top 10 nationally ranked and one of the most affordable MBAs in the country is available entirely online.

“All of our classes are asynchronous, meaning you can log in and view that content at whatever time works best for you.

Our students really appreciate that flexibility, which allows them to maintain their job and pursue an advanced degree at the same time.”
