Meet Corinne Sweet, owner of Board in Birmingham
Longtime career and professional charcuterie artist Corinne Sweet is building much more than your traditional restaurant.
Charcuterie is defined as a French meat and cheese board. If you ask Corinne, she would say it’s much more than that. Her catering business of 2 years, Board in Birmingham, specializes in different variations of meat and cheese. Earlier this month, Corinne announced plans to open Alabama’s first charcuterie-style restaurant. We had a chance to speak to her and find out what she’s most excited about.
“Honestly, I’m excited about everything! The decor is classy and funky. The bathroom is hilarious. The lounge area has a vintage phone booth for selfies.
The retail room will have everything you need for gifts for your charcuterie-board-obsessed friend. And, of course, the cheeses I’m carrying! There are several, including Black Lemon Gouda, where I’m the only one in Alabama that sells it.”

Corinne grew up cooking for three brothers. She then became a food and beverage manager at Greystone Country Club. She has had vast experience in the food industry with over 16 years of experience. Now her dream of owning a restaurant specializing in the art of different food combinations is coming true.
“In the decade I worked at Greystone Golf & Country Club, I learned how to make dining experiences pleasant. I also learned how to make them memorable. My boss, Calvin Bolling, was the best mentor. He trained me about the importance of even the tiniest of details and encouraged my creativity.”

Want some cheese with that wine?
Board in Birmingham is set to open its doors in mid-October officially and will be located on 280. Here you’ll be able to divulge in a light yet savory mid-day snack. It will feature fresh produce, pickled veggies, olives, nuts and jams.
Check out some of their specialties:
- Sweet Home Alabama: an assortment of rock candy, yogurt-covered pretzels and other sweets
- Everything’s Better with Butter: fresh bread, savory/sweet butter (we heard this one is best paired with wine).
- That’s so brunch: mini bagels, crepes, cinnamon rolls, crumpets, salmon, brie and mascarpone
“You know how when you go to Subway or Moe’s? You get to pick out exactly what you want to eat. Well this will be the charcuterie board version!
When you come in, one of my charcuterie artists will guide you down the line. They will ask what meats, cheeses, pickled veggies, olives, etc. you want on your board. Afterwards you can either dine in or take-out. There will also be a bar serving beer and wine.”
