It’s curry time, Birmingham!

Longtime restauranteur Buwhan Bashel and Bir Thapa were overjoyed when it came time to open Curry Corner. Their plans to introduce Indian cuisine to Moutain Brook have been in the works since early spring.

Yesterday, both Bashel and Bir hosted their grand opening and saw the many smiles of satisfied customers enjoying flavors from their heritage.

“My good friend and business partner, Bir, decided one day that we wanted to bring Indian cuisine to English village.

We began looking for a good place to bring our ideas to life and we finally found English village.”

Bashel and Bir told us that they are most excited to bring in customers who love food. With different types of food being located mostly downtown and customers having to fight for parking, Curry Corner is looking forward to providing accessible dining.

“We actually came up with the name for our restaurant by combining one of the most recognizable Indian dishes, curry, and our location, which is on the corner of English Village.”

Indian delicacies at every corner

Executive Chef Parash Ojha has been working tirelessly to come up with new dishes that will satisfy the tastebuds of many.

Some of the specialty dishes include:

  • Chicken Methi Malai: chicken cooked in a creamy sauce and Methi powder, coriander and ginger-garlic paste
  • Goat Durn Biryani: marinated goat and basmati rice cooked with fragrant spices, Saffron, yogurt, mint and Indian spices
  • Onion Naan: made-from-scratch Naan stuffed with onion

“We are more focused on the healthy flavored food, meaning the majority of our dishes are not fried and focus more on Tandoori (clay oven) cooked dishes with Indian spices.”
