One of Birmingham’s most popular chefs is planning to open a coastal-inspired restaurant in Mountain Brook Village.

Abhi Sainju—the chef behind Abhi Eatery + Bar and Maro—will be opening his newest venture later this summer. Called Surf Hound, the restaurant is inspired by 1960-1970’s surf culture and coastal towns from around the world.

“I’m excited to bring our community something new with Surf Hound.”

Located in the heart of Mountain Brook Village

Surf Hound will be located in the heart of Mountain Brook Village at 2400 Montevallo Road.

The location is adjacent to Mountain Brook Creamery and Table Manners and was formerly home to the Mountain Brook location of Carrigan’s Public House, which closed in 2022.

What can you expect at Surf Hound?

According to Abhi Sainju, Surf Hound will offer:

  • Classics like burgers and nachos
  • Fresh-caught grilled fish dishes inspired by Sainju’s Asian roots and the beaches of his youth
  • A beverage menu that pays homage to nostalgic coastal classics. Non-alcoholic and frozen options are also available

“We have created a casual, beautiful place that invites people to come as they are – while still having access to a great meal.

Surf Hound taps into who we all become at the beach: laid back, relaxed, happy, and most importantly, in the moment.”

Abhi Sainju

Known for his originality and creativity, we can’t wait to see Sainju’s newest concept.
