Monday Night Brewing, the popular taproom and restaurant in the Parkside District, received approval from the Birmingham Design Review Committee to renovate its outdoor patio.

According to Monday Night co-founder Joel Iverson, the brewery moved into their current location in the midst of the COVID lockdown in 2021. While they were able to complete the build out for the taproom and restaurant, they left the outdoor patio unfinished.

“It is a very basic patio with a couple of picnic tables and concrete. That whole end of the street was kind of a warzone with all the construction, because they were building apartments at the time.

Now it looks a lot different there at the end of the street. We said — ‘Hey, what can we do to essentially reimagine that space!’”

And that’s where plans for the newly renovated patio comes in. At the Design Review Committee meeting Iverson showed renderings that included several new amenities

  • Updated tables and chairs
  • Green artificial turf
  • Retractable shade system
  • Elevated deck, that will lend itself to several entertainment options

“We really view our spaces as community spaces. We love creating engaging and exciting spaces where people can enjoy being around other people. Our purpose as a company is to deepen relationships over some of the best beer in the country.

When you’re in a space that is well designed and thoughtful, it’s more conducive to essentially meeting our goal, which is really great beer and really great relationships.”

What’s next

Monday Night Brewing will begin work on the new outdoor patio this summer. They intend to open the new and improved patio by fall.
