Hallmark Farms in Warrior aims to become a massive tourist destination—everything you need to know
Reading time: 3 minutes
Last year, Bham Now reported that some big things were happening with Hallmark Farms. Now, this development has taken another huge step forward.
Here’s everything you need to know.
Hallmark Farms is a pillar to the community
If you’ve ever found yourself driving on I-65 North, chances are you’ve seen one of the most recognizable landmarks in Alabama.
Hallmark Farms has long served the Warrior community and has been a vital part of the community since it was developed in 1976.
The mansion once housed Ted and Mary Hallmark, owners of a coal-mining equipment company. The deaths of the founders left the property to face troubling times until the Jefferson County Commission was able to purchase the land for $7.5M in 2019.
Since then, Jefferson County has made big plans for the property in hopes of boosting the economy. In 2023, The Alabama Rural Economic Center announced its plan to make Hallmark Farms a resort.
Now, the design of the new Hallmark Farms has been solidified, and the county has taken multiple actions to begin construction.
What we can expect to see
With a whopping $158M budget, the Jefferson County Commission and Alabama Farmers Federation (ALFA) plans to make Hallmark Farms one of the biggest attractions in Alabama.
Here’s what they plan to build:
- Indoor livestock arena
- Covered outdoor arena
- 2 livestock barns
- Exhibit hall
- Education center
These are just some of the new features we can expect to see at the farm. As construction continues, final details will be released.
New bill expedites construction
Last month, Alabama legislators passed a bill that will pave the way for additional funding, planning and organizing of this project. With this new bill comes the decision to appoint board members who will oversee the blueprints of the project.
We talked to Jefferson County Commissioner Joe Knight about future plans and aspirations for the project. Here’s what he said:
“It’s going to be a great place once it’s developed because it will create new jobs, make North Jefferson County have more commercial development and be a great exhibition center.
As of now, there is no hard timeline, but we want to get it started as quickly as possible. We’re concentrating on infrastructure such as road, sewer, water and power.”
Joe Knight, Jefferson County Commissioner
We’re so excited to see what becomes of the beautiful Hallmark Farms!
