Reading time: 2 minutes
Hoover High School is on a roll! On Friday, a special recognition program was held to honor the students who worked tirelessly to secure $100k by winning the Solve for Tomorrow Contest.
Keep reading to find out exactly how they did this.
Innovation for accessibility
The Solve for Tomorrow Contest offers students a chance to put their heads together and invent something that could be impactful.
The contest aims to help STEM students enhance their creativity by strengthening their problem-solving skills.
The students’ groundbreaking project began with ideas on how to change the expensive devices that help lock doors. The issue was the ease of access for the disabled, limiting their ability to open doors by themselves.
With the help of 3D printing, these students were able to create a low-cost alternative with a retail value of $150.
The students hope to either sell the product or license parts so that others can create the product themselves.
The Office of Science and Technology is exploring options for the students to present their creation at the White House science fair.
