Last fall, the Pihakis Restaurant Group and Mike Mouron announced they were teaming up to develop a creative one-of-a-kind restaurant called Magnolia Point on Birmingham’s Southside.

On Monday, May 13th, the Pihakis Group posted on their Instagram account the following teaser:

Obviously, we were excited to learn more about the project—so we connected with Mouron to get an update.

Here is what he told us to expect:

The restaurant is slated to open this summer.

Remember what the old Magnolia Point looked like before Mouron and his group started renovating the place? Below are before and after pics of the exterior.

Thanks to state and federal tax credits—as well as other incentives—the building has been brought back to life.

Here’s a fun fact about the “Magnolia Point” sign on the building.

Mouron told Bham Now everyone assumed it was painted on. It is not. The lettering is a raised brick of a different color.

The food, courtyard and atmosphere

Magnolia Point is the latest restaurant project from Pihakis Restaurant Group, the dynamic hospitality company behind some of Birmingham’s most beloved restaurants: Little Donkey, Tasty Town, Rodney Scott’s BBQ, Hero and most recently Luca Lagotto in Homewood.

According to Mouron, Magnolia Point will feature dozens of delectable seafood dishes, such as:

  • Oyster Po’ Boys
  • Shrimp Po’ Boys
  • Fish sandwiches
  • Seafood dishes
  • Gumbo

“It’s going to have a good bit of seafood. The seafood will be fresh. The bread will be brought in from New Orleans. We’re going for a real quality product. Everything Nick Pihakis’ team does is quality.”

Mike Mouron

In addition to seafood, Magnolia Point will offer meals like burgers, steak, Reuben sandwiches, salads and more.

Other amenities — courtyard + parking

In addition to great food and service, Magnolia Point will have a large courtyard, which will make it a hot spot for after-work gatherings with friends and loved ones. There will be 10-12 beers on tap and a selection of wines.

Another amenity? Parking. Since Mouron owns the 2200 Magnolia Avenue properties next door, there should be plenty of parking, especially after 5 o’clock.

“I’m hoping that this becomes a place where a lot of people after work would say let’s meet at Magnolia Point for a beer, a glass of wine and great food. We want it to get the vibe of a neighborhood restaurant.”

Mike Mouron
