Birmingham’s historic jazz scene

Since the 1920’s, Birmingham has been home to a thriving jazz scene including famous Alabama-native artists like Sun Ra and Nat “King” Cole. Carrying on throughout economic depressions, world wars, political movements and beyond, the jazz movement is timeless and integral to Alabama’s rich history.

Today, the spirit of jazz is alive and well in Birmingham thanks to local venues like the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame and Uptown Jazz Lounge.
