The block has a long, storied history with The Birmingham News—the current building was constructed across the street from the site of the original Birmingham News headquarters built in 1917.

The four-story, 125,000-square-foot building on 4th Ave N housed The Birmingham News from 2006 to 2014. In 2015, it was purchased by Infinity Property and Casualty Corp before the company was acquired by Kemper Corp in 2018.

Shunnarah purchased the building for a whopping $13.2 Million.

Shunnarah, known for his highway-dominating billboards and catch phrase “Call me, Alabama!”, owns one of the largest billboards in the state at the top of the 17-story Two North Twentieth building on Morris Avenue.
