NEW: Container bar addition planned for Urban Supply tenant
Reading time: 3 minutes
Plans for a new container bar addition to a highly-anticipated tenant at Urban Supply—an upcoming mixed-use development near Railroad Park—were brought up at Birmingham’s Design Review Committee meeting this morning. Read on to learn more about the container bar and how it connects to the larger Urban Supply vision.
A new container bar for Urban Supply
Earlier this year, Bham Now reported that Up-Down Arcade Bar—a concept founded by Josh Ivey, Rafe Mateer and Sam Summers in 2012—would soon open a new location at Urban Supply, a development led by Orchestra Partners.
“Up-Down is an authentic arcade experience that harkens back to the arcades that a lot of us visited growing up. We have games from the 80s, 90s and early 2000s, and decor is a mix of nostalgic art and posters from movies and music from that era.”
Josh Ivey, Co-Owner of Up-Down Arcade Bar, in a statement earlier this year
Once complete, Up-Down will feature:
- Between 60 to 75 different arcade machines, including arcade games, pinball machines, skeeball alleys and vintage console games
- Pizza by the slice
- A full bar with a robust beer selection and craft cocktails
- A large, outdoor patio with an outdoor bar element
Thanks to this morning’s Design Review Committee meeting, we now know a little bit more about the outdoor bar element.
According to Drew Watson—Senior Development Manager with Orchestra Partners—the bar element will consist of five outdoor containers with two levels of outdoor seating.
“As part of their space at Urban Supply, Up-Down Arcade Bar will operate a container bar at the edge of their large patio area. This container bar will service the patio area along with other events that may take place on the lot.”

Adding to the vision for Urban Supply
Up-Down’s outdoor patio and container bar will be a strong addition to Urban Supply, a mixed-use redevelopment of several warehouses and alleys in Parkside.
“A big part of our vision for Urban Supply is walkability, so we’re putting a lot of thought and work into the outdoor areas of the project. The goal is to thoughtfully integrate the project with Railroad Park, Regions Field and the rest of the Parkside district.”
Drew Watson, Senior Development Mananger, Orchestra Partners
Orchestra Partners aims to have their portion of Urban Supply’s build-out completed by the end of the summer. Then, Urban Supply’s tenants will have individual build-out periods that will vary in length.
“We’re hoping to have several tenants open before the end of the year. Construction is well underway, and we’re excited with how the project is shaping up!”
