Birmingham’s own Sidewalk Film Festival has made MovieMaker’s annual list of “50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry.”

MovieMaker is one of the most trusted sources for the latest in all things movies.

The popular publication is a big fan of Sidewalk. Last July, they recognized the Magic City’s long-running festival as one of the 25 coolest in the world.

Not every budding filmmaker can enter their shorts, documentaries and films to Sundance, SXSW, Cannes or the Toronto International Film Festival. That is why MovieMaker’s “50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry” list is valuable. It shines a spotlight on festivals that are good at launching careers in their own right.

What did MovieMaker have to say about Sidewalk?

It said the festival receives high marks from filmmakers for not only discovering new talents but continuing to support them throughout their careers.

“The festival is generous with travel and lodging, features impressive educational panels from both local and international filmmakers, and has drawn distributors including NEON and A24.”

In a statement to Bham Now, Sidewalk’s Chloe Cook is proud to make the MovieMakers list which includes film festivals from all over the world.

“We are thrilled to be included in this list, amongst such good company. For 26 years now we’ve been committed to hosting the best possible festival for our community and for independent filmmakers from Alabama and around the world.”
