Stretching across 19 acres in the heart of Birmingham is Railroad Park. With neighbors like The Red Cat Coffee House, Good People Brewing and Regions Field, Railroad Park is known for hosting community events year-round.
Some of these events include nutritional classes led by local organizations or individuals. The fun and unique sessions are back and happening all the way through October—let’s take a look.
Get Healthy on the Railroad
This series of free nutritional classes at Railroad Park is known as “Get Healthy on the Railroad,” and the new season officially kicked off on April 1.
Sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, Get Healthy on the Railroad brings positivity to the community and promotes the overall health of Birmingham.
Get moving with fitness classes at Railroad Park
Thanks to these free classes offered daily, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama has made staying healthy in Birmingham easier than ever.
All you have to do is show up 15 minutes early to register and have the time of your life.
Evening classes held daily at 6PM:
- Monday: Boxing cardio—This workout combines martial arts techniques with fast-paced cardio.
- Tuesday: Hip-Hop cardio—Feel the burn as you dance through hip-hop choreography with a killer playlist.
- Wednesday: Zumba—It’s fun, easy to follow + your new favorite hobby.
- Thursday: Yoga—Take a breather + quiet your mind while you strengthen your body and find balance + flexibility.
- Friday: Line dancing—Get moving with fun, low-impact exercises designed for all ages.
You can join any of these now until October 31.
Staying active is important no matter your age
No matter our age—it’s important to stay active. “Senior Fit” was designed with a focus on low-impact movement that is beneficial for older adults.
Senior Fit happens every Tuesday and Friday at 8AM. Come see what it’s all about now through October 29.
Find a new hobby or show off your skills with cooking classes
Put your culinary skills to the test with free cooking classes, offered once a month on Sundays at 3:30PM.
Birmingham-area chefs teach and offer take-home recipes.
BONUS: The first 100 households to register will receive a free bundle of produce from Piggly Wiggly—that way you can make the recipe on your own time!

Registration will open 30 minutes before each session.
