13 colleges & universities offering support to Birmingham-Southern College students

In response to Monday’s announcement regarding the closure of Birmingham-Southern College, 10 colleges and universities have extended special offers to current students at Southern—with more likely on the way.
1. University of Alabama System
The University of Alabama System is offering an expedited transfer process to all eligible students currently enrolled at Birmingham-Southern College.
The expedited transfer process will be available at all University of Alabama System campuses: The University of Alabama, The University of Alabama at Birmingham and The University of Alabama in Huntsville.
Key points of the expedited transfer process include:
- Waived application fees, expedited review and credit transfer processing if eligible
- Each UA System institution will work with accepted students on an individual basis to create a competitive financial aid package to the greatest extent possible based on available funding and student eligibility
- UA System campuses will maximize students’ transfer credits to help work toward timely degree completion
In addition, deadlines will be adjusted as necessary to accommodate affected students.
Birmingham-Southern students interested in transferring to a UA System institution are encouraged to apply for transfer as soon as possible and to contact the following dedicated liaisons with any questions:

2. Miles College
Miles College will offer an effective transfer process to all eligible students currently enrolled at Birmingham-Southern College, available immediately, beginning with their June 3, 2024 Summer Session.
Interested students will receive:
- A free application fee
- Expedited review
- Transfer credit evaluation
- a New Student Transfer Fee waiver
Miles College’s Transfer Admissions Team will work with each student to offer a competitive financial aid package, including the Bridge scholarship, based on available funding and eligibility.

3. University of Montvallo
The University of Montevallo has announced an expedited transfer process and scholarship opportunities to current students at Birmingham-Southern College. Key points include:
- Waived application fees for ALL BSC students.
- Expedited review and credit transfer processing.
- Freshman merit scholarships are available to BSC students with fewer than 30 credit hours
- Transfer scholarships are available for BSC students with 30 or more credit hours
- Foundation scholarships are available for ALL BSC students
The University of Montevallo’s admissions counselors and academic advisors are offering support to help Southern students complete their educational goals. Interested students should visit montevallo.edu/BSC or email admissions@montevallo.edu ASAP.
4. Huntingdon College
Huntingdon College—which has been partners with BSC in independent liberal arts and pre-professional higher education in Alabama and the worldwide Methodist Connection for generations—is ready to offer assistance to Birmingham-Southern College students.

5. Jacksonville State University
Jacksonville State University is offering seamless transfer options and expansive transfer scholarships to help Birmingham-Southern College students continue and complete their academic journeys.

6. University of Mobile
The University of Mobile is working with Birmingham-Southern College administration to develop an easy transfer plan for students and will have representatives on campus next week to work individually with students.
The University of Mobile is offering additional scholarships to students from Birmingham-Southern College, in addition to their competitive transfer-friendly merit scholarship.
Interested students are invited to apply at umobile.edu/apply and use code BSC24 for a free application. Alternatively, students may contact the UM Admissions Office at 251.422.2222 or by emailing umenrollment@umobile.edu.
7. Spring Hill College
Spring Hill College is offering a $5,000 scholarship to transfer students from Birmingham-Southern College.

8. University of North Alabama
The University of North Alabama is extending a warm welcome to all students affected by the closing of Birmingham Southern College.
Interested students can learn more about the University of North Alabama’s programs and transfer opportunities at UNA.edu/transfer or by contacting Admissions at admissions@una.edu.
9. The University of West Alabama
The University of West Alabama is allowing Birmingham-Southern College students to transfer seamlessly and earn academic + housing scholarships as they continue their pursuit of degrees.
Birmingham-Southern College wishing to transfer to UWA may be eligible for competitive, attractive scholarships that are renewable for up to four consecutive semesters.
Additional scholarships through UWA housing are available for students who wish to live on campus and meet academic scholarship criteria.

10. Athens State University
A transfer-only institution, Athens State University is prepared to welcome Birmingham-Southern students and aims to ensure the transition is as seamless as possible.
Athens State University is offering an expedited transfer process with no application fee.

11. Samford University
Samford University stands ready to assist Birmingham-Southern College students affected by the closing. Interested students should visit Samford University’s website.
12. Auburn University
Auburn University is offering expedited assistance to Birmingham-Southern College students, including:
- An accelerated review for Auburn’s summer and fall 2024 semesters
- A waived application fee for displaced BSC students
- Exclusive virtual appointments
- Availability to connect with members of Auburn’s admissions committee
In addition, members of Auburn’s admissions office will attend a transfer fair at BSC on April 5.
BSC students interested in transferring to Auburn are encouraged to apply for transfer as soon as possible and to contact Auburn’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions at 334.844.6425.
13. Millsaps College
Millsaps College has developed a Birmingham-Southern to Millsaps College Plan to aid students affected by Birmingham-Southern College’s closing. For students on track to graduate on time at BSC, Millsaps will honor its four-year graduation guarantee by including semesters already completed at BSC and offering two options based on earned credit hours.
