ASO’s special performance at the historic Avon Theater. (Alabama Symphony Orchestra)

Swap your usual evening plans for a night at the Avon Theater in Lakeview.

Take your seat in the historic theater and be transformed into an intimate and inspiring performance by some of Alabama’s finest musical talent.

The Alabama Symphony Orchestra will be performing Piazzolla’s Libertango and Grieg’s Holberg Suite, featuring a violin solo by Daniel Szasz.

“Libertango” isn’t just any old tango piece. Piazzolla took the traditional tango and gave it a serious makeover.

He mixed in some classical vibes, threw in some electric guitar and flipped the script on the rhythm. The result? A whole new genre called tango nuevo.

Plus, brace yourself for Edvard Grieg’s Holberg Suite. This piece is like a musical time machine back to the days of Ludwig Holberg’s birth.

Grieg goes all out, capturing the vibe of Holberg’s era with different dance styles and fancy music tricks that were all the rage back then.

2. Brahms’ Birthday Celebration

It’s time for another Concertmaster series at Samford Brock Hall. The main man, Concertmaster Daniel Szasz, is hosting this chamber-style gig where he’ll be joined by three talented musicians and one featured vocalist.

And get this—Carlos Izcaray, the big boss conductor of the ASO, is swapping his baton for an instrument. Yep, he’s joining the lineup for Brahm’s Birthday Celebration, adding even more excitement to the mix.

It’s a 190-year celebratory performance of song and chamber music.

This will be a most unique concert featuring:

  • Daniel Szasz on violin
  • Christopher Lowry on viola
  • Carlos Izcaray on cello
  • Frequent guest pianist, Lester Seigel
  • Featured baritone vocalist, Daniel Seigel

This is the Concertmaster finale for the season, so you won’t want to miss it!

Seating is open, so you can pick out your perfect spot and get cozy while enjoying the intimate vibes.
