VUEniq names Birmingham #11 best city to start a career

It’s no big secret that Birmingham is one of the better cities to launch your career. Earlier this year, ADP—the nation’s largest payroll company—ranked the Birmingham metro #1 in the third annual best U.S.metro areas for new college grads, and the Wall Street Journal reported that Birmingham is the best place in theU.S. for those 20-somethings who just earned their college degree.
Now, the Magic City has another feather to add to its cap.
In a new ranking released by video-first talent discovery platform VUEniq, Birmingham nearly cracked the top ten best metros for college graduates entering the workforce in 2027. The Magic City came in at #11, barely beaten by the top 10 cities on the list:
- Columbus, Ohio
- Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina
- Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas
- Atlanta, Georgia
- Charlotte, North Carolina
- Indianapolis, Indiana
- Houston, Texas
- Tampa-St. Petersburg, Florida
- Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
- Nashville, Tennessee
VUEniq considered several factors when developing its ranking, including:
- Breadth of professional opportunities
- Availability of entry-level career paths
- Diversity of employers and industries
- Early-career earning potential
- Cost of living and affordability
- Industry-specific opportunities
Here’s what VUEniq had to say about the Magic City.
“Birmingham deserves consideration from graduates seeking a professional market where living costs may be more manageable. Healthcare, banking, insurance and business services provide a foundation of professional employment opportunities. ADP’s 2026 graduate-market analysis also placed Birmingham at the top of its ranking.”
