Coca-Cola UNITED’s impact by the numbers
2023 was a busy year for Coca-Cola Bottling Company UNITED. A report was released on the economic impact of each state and WOW at the numbers in Alabama!
Let’s take a closer look at what a few of these numbers mean.
$395M in goods + services purchased
For over 100 years, the Coca-Cola UNITED team has committed to holding the highest standards for themselves and their suppliers.
Seeking out strong partnerships with suppliers, Coca-Cola UNITED is dedicated to providing the best value through a consistent supply of quality services. This is made possible through the hundreds of retailers in the Birmingham Area and beyond who distribute Coca-Cola products.
Have you ever thought about who is restocking your favorite vending machine snacks? What about the people creating the elaborate grocery store displays?
19,710 jobs supported
The Coca-Cola Company, Coca-Cola UNITED and other independently owned bottlers in Alabama supported a total of 19,710 jobs across Alabama. The jobs included are in sectors such as:
- Agriculture
- Manufacturing
- Services
- Trade
- Transport
According to Senior Corporate Communications Manager Cassandra Mickens, this includes 2,800 direct system jobs and 16,200 jobs supported across the value chain—which means that the Coca-Cola system collectively supports six additional jobs for each one it directly creates.
$9.4M invested in community programs
None of the numbers above would be what they are without the community. I may be biased, but I think Birmingham is a pretty great city—with pretty great companies like Coca-Cola UNITED playing a role in its growth.
Corporate Community Relations Manager Christy Danzy expanded on this, saying:
“At Coca-Cola UNITED, serving our communities is one of our core priorities. We consider our local communities—along with our associates, customers and consumers—a part of our Coca-Cola UNITED family.”
Christy Danzy, Corporate Community Relations Manager, Coca-Cola UNITED
Wondering how exactly Coca-Cola UNITED has impacted our neighborhoods? Christy Danzy, UNITED’s Corporate Community Relations Manager, gave us a few examples.
“In 2021, Coca-Cola UNITED entered a partnership with UAB’s Live HealthSmart Alabama initiative on revitalization efforts in Birmingham’s Kingston community.
Live HealthSmart works with businesses, schools, faith-based organizations and nonprofits to positively impact the health of Alabamians.”
Christy Danzy, Corporate Community Relations Manager, Coca-Cola UNITED
Coca-Cola UNITED also gave $250,000 to Live HealthSmart in 2023 to create “Community Leadership Academies” in the following areas:
- Bush Hills
- Central City
- Druid Hills
- East Lake
- Evergreen
- Fountain Heights
- Kingston
- Norwood
- Titusville
According to Danzy, these academies will develop residents who aspire to become community leaders—teaching them skills such as how to budget, facilitate a meeting or resolve conflict.
It is our belief at Coca-Cola UNITED that our business can only prosper if the communities where we live, work and serve are strong and vibrant.”
