Brr! Frigid 10° temperatures recorded in Birmingham this morning

Whether you’ve stayed huddled by the fire or dared to venture out and about, it’s no secret that the past few days have been some of the coldest in recent memory. But how do this week’s temps stack up against historic lows in Birmingham? Read on to find out.
Birmingham got down to 10° this morning
According to the National Weather Service’s Birmingham office, a chilly 10° was recorded this morning at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (5:53AM) and Protective Stadium (7:10AM).
As chilly as 10° is, some of our neighboring cities saw even colder temperatures.
- Vestavia Hills — 8° (6:55AM)
- Hoover — 8° (7:05AM)
- Bessemer Airport — 8° (6:56AM)
- Trussville — 9° (7:15AM)
- Pinson — 6° (7:25AM)
Don’t get me wrong—it’s really cold. But it’s not as cold as it has been in the past. According to the NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information, the lowest temperature recorded in Birmingham was a frigid -6° on January 21, 1985. Brr!
