Last week, more than 200 people attended UWCA’s celebration to cheer on the success of the 2023 campaign. The official total raised was $38,613,100, more than $1.5 million beyond the year’s campaign goal.

“As we conclude our 100th annual campaign and celebrate our volunteers, donors and generous community, it is an inspiring time as we reflect on not only all that has been accomplished during this campaign, but also as we move forward with our mission that began a century ago.”

Every year, United Way’s campaign raises a significant amount of money to support partner agencies, programs and community-wide initiatives focused on improving people’s health, education and financial stability.

The many causes that the campaign supports bring about real change for individuals and Central Alabama as a whole. Tracey Morant Adams, Ph.D., Chair of UWCA’s Community Impact Committee, emphasized how these dollars represent real people and real needs that will be affected.

“It is not just about the numbers. It is about the lives, the lives we will touch, the futures we will shape and the communities we will strengthen together, as we ignite possibilities, create opportunity and uplift our neighbors in need. Every allocation is a step towards building a better, brighter tomorrow.”

United Way has more than 100 partner agencies, programs and direct services that are changing lives all over Birmingham and beyond. With the help of UWCA, local organizations can rely on unrestricted, sustainable support.

Dr. Dow Briggs, Executive Vice President of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama and this year’s campaign chair, touched on just how important these groups are in our community.

“Part of us being human beings is that when we reach our limitations, we struggle to reach out. We’ve all been there, when life takes an unexpected turn. UWCA is one of those spots where when you are in trouble, you can go there for help. Our goal is to work as hard as we can to create the biggest scale of reach for these services.”
