CONFIRMED: Homewood, Mountain Brook experienced tornadoes Sunday morning

The National Weather Service Birmingham Office confirmed two tornadoes had struck Homewood and Mountain Brook around midnight on December 10th.

Much of Central Alabama was awakened by a line of storms that stretched from Selma to Gadsden. Straight-line winds from the storm resulted in downed trees statewide.

As of 6:00AM on Monday morning, Alabama Power’s Outage Map reports 2656 customers without power.

On Sunday afternoon, after conducting a damage assessment,the National Weather Service Birmingham Office released a statement on X and Facebook confirming two tornado tracks in Homewood and Mountain Brook/Cahaba Heights.

Here is their statement:

Surveys were conducted in Jefferson County today, assessing damage from Saturday night’s storms . Two short tornado tracks have been confirmed:

(1) Just north of Lakeshore Pkwy from generally Wildwood to Samford – EF1/100mph.

(2) From Brookwood Mall into Cahaba Heights – EF1/90mph

NWS is encouraging Alabama residents to share information about what they experienced Saturday and Sunday evening.
