For 13 years, Shipra Verma has been at EBSCO Industries in Birmingham, Alabama, where she is currently working as a Senior Software Engineer. We recently met up with her to learn what she loves about working there. Keep reading for all the details.
Meet Shipra Verma
Born and raised in India, Verma completed her bachelor’s in engineering before coming to the United States 20 years ago. She’s the proud mom to 17- and 11-year-old daughters and is also a sister, daughter and wife. In her free time, she loves gardening and yoga.
When she first moved to the U.S., Verma worked in San Diego and Houston, then came to Birmingham to work at EBSCO. Now, more than a decade later, Birmingham feels like a second home to her.
EBSCO supports employees like a family
Verma’s tenure at EBSCO began in the accounting department until the system she supports moved to the Corporate IT department. There, she supports the SAP systems for domestic human resources (HR) domestically and international finances/accounting.
What she loves most about EBSCO, particularly as a working mom, is that they support employees like a family in terms of both work flexibility and benefits.
“I remember when my younger daughter was born—she used to get sick a lot when I started her in daycare. I didn’t have someone here to take care of my sick child, and daycare won’t take sick kids.
But EBSCO didn’t just give me maternity leave; they also provided the work flexibility I needed. Even today, now that my children are older, my manager and my leaders all support me. This support helps me maintain a healthy and balanced work and family life. I’m really grateful for that.”
Investing in professional development
In addition to the support she’s received to balance work and home responsibilities, Verma has benefited from going to conferences that have allowed her to enhance her business knowledge within EBSCO.
