United Ability understands the importance of a job and how it can change lives. That’s exactly why they created their employment services program—to serve students and adults with disabilities, helping them enhance their skills and reach their employment goals. We talked to Abbie Daniel, who United Ability helped find her dream job at Warren Averett. Here’s what we learned.

United Ability played a huge role in Abbie’s job search

The employment services program at United Ability played a huge role in getting Abbie Daniel to where she is now. As an administrative assistant at Warren Averett, where she’s worked since 2019, she gets to put her skills to use every day.

“United Ability helped me learn how to interview, how to dress appropriately, took me to job fairs and really pushed me out of my comfort zone. They played an instrumental role in me landing this job that I love.”

For adults with disabilities ready to find a fulfilling job, United Ability helps them learn job skills and social skills, then teaches them how to create their own resumes and find a fitting role.

“We know that so many individuals with disabilities want the same opportunities as anyone else. Abbie is a perfect example of that. She doesn’t want to be stagnant at a job, she wants to be happy and social and fulfilled.

She wouldn’t do well in a position where she’s in the back of the house, you know, not getting to talk to anyone or help people. We help people find jobs, but we really want it to be the right job for them where they’ll be successful.”

Once they’re hired, United Ability employees come alongside new employees to assist during orientation and training. PLUS—they follow up with the employer and employee to ensure success and help reduce turnover.

Abbie clearly brings joy to the Warren Averett office and her coworkers. Some of her daily tasks include setting up client meetings, ordering catering for big meetings and assisting her supervisors in any way she can.

Warren Averett has made incredible accommodations for Abbie. She has a larger cubicle to fit her walker, large monitors to make sure she can see her work and a desk that can be raised and lowered for her needs.

“My favorite part of my job is the people that I work with. They’re all so friendly and care about each other, so we have lots of laughs as we work. The fact that I get to help our executive assistants and make their jobs a little easier as they serve their partners makes me so excited.”

According to United Ability, employment should be individualized and unique for every person, and everyone deserves a job where they are included in the general workforce.

“I am so thankful for the opportunity that United Ability has given me, they’ve helped open so many doors for people like me. They have given me so many opportunities to grow in different facets and ways. I couldn’t be happier.”
