Ten years ago, a group of Birmingham professionals created an event called The Lion’s Den.

Held at Samford University the first 9 years, the event brings business leaders and entrepreneurs together from nearly every state and all over the world to mobilize resources and network to advance God’s Kingdom using Business as Mission (BAM) — a Christian way of doing business.

Unbeknownst to the founders from Birmingham a decade ago, they started a movement.

Over the years, BAM-centered events have been held from Dallas to Silicon Valley.

This year’s summit will be held for the first time at Highlands College on October 11-13. Register today.

Read on to learn why this annual summit matters.

What is Business as Mission

There are many definitions for the Business as Mission, but perhaps Mats Tunehag, one of the leaders of the BAM movement describes it best:

“Legitimate economic activity (business) by a workplace professional which serves as a vehicle for sharing the love of Christ…”

Attended by over 600 participants, the agenda is packed with plenary sessions and breakout groups—all gatherings with business investors. The keynote speaker is Dwight Nordstrom, an international business leader.

The Lion’s Den Summit connects Business a Mission leaders

Locally, one of BAM’s biggest supporters is Victor Brown with the Birmingham Business Alliance.

He described to us why this specific summit can be life-changing for the small business owner to the entrepreneur beginning a start-up or a person working for a corporation.

“The worldwide leadership for Business as Mission came from Birmingham.

As someone who works with small businesses all the time, at some points in the lifecycle of the business, they need capital. I’ve seen money flowing to traditional companies that ended up scaling up as a result of the involvement of impact investors and investors that embrace the Business as Mission concept.

~ Victor Brown, Birmingham Business Alliance
