‘Tis the season of shorts and sweaters, Birmingham. Though we never know what kind of weather we’ll have at the beginning of the season, we do know that local eateries have some amazing specials with fall flavors. Featuring all your favorites from figs and apples to pecans and squash, these seven dishes are the perfect way to manifest autumn.

1. Seasonal Guac from El Barrio

El Barrio never misses with their Seasonal Guac, and their fall edition is no exception. Green apples, pickled jalapenos and spiced pecans on guacamole might not be the first combination you think of, but it works perfectly.

2. Fig + Collard Salad from Real + Rosemary

If you’re craving fall flavors but still want the freshness of summer, Real + Rosemary has you covered. Their Fig + Collard Salad features a base of in-season, fresh collards, dried figs, pickled apples and walnuts, and it’s topped with a mustard viniagrette.

3. Pimento Cheese Truffles from Homewood Gourmet

For a fall-weather take on the Southern favorite, Homewood Gourmet has Pimento Cheese Truffles rolled in spiced pecans. This one makes for an out-of-the-box gameday snack or fall party appetizer—or just a late-night snack.

4. Lemon Posset with Figs, Pecans + Honey from The Anvil Pub

If the name of this one intimidates you, don’t worry. It’s a custard-like dessert hailing from the UK, and the Anvil Pub is putting their own twist on it this season. The creamy, lemony base is topped with fresh figs, pecans and a drizzle of honey for a perfectly balanced bite.

5. Pasta Specials from Trattoria Zaza

Creative specials are filling in Zaza’s menu throughout the week with their new Autumn menu. Each day, they have a different pasta dish inspired by warm fall flavors like roasted brussels, curried butternut squash and more.

6. Butternut Squash Soup from Brick + Tin

Brick + Tin’s soups always hit the spot, especially with a side of their fresh bread or a hot panini. The Butternut Squash Soup is vibrant yet cozy, perfectly creamy and filled with fall flavor.
