Furnace Fest announces 2024 will be their final year

Yesterday, after Furnace Fest 2023 came to a close, the hardcore and metal music festival announced on Instagram that next year’s event will be the last. The final Furnace Fest will take place October 4-6, 2024 at Sloss Furnaces.
Furnace Fest’s revival is coming to an end
In 2000, the original Furnace Fest took place in Birmingham hosting punk, hardcore and metal acts until coming to a close in 2003. Nearly two decades later in 2019, four friends attempted to bring the event back to the city.
After a postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Furnace Fest finally returned in 2021—the start of a four-year replica of the original festival. The revived Furnace Fest even featured several of the same acts as the original festival, including Hatebreed, Mastodon and Norma Jean.
As they closed out the 2023 festival with headlining performances by Turnstile, Bane and MXPX, the festival made the announcement that they would be preparing for their last event in 2024.
“What does this mean beyond next year? Will the festival end? Morph into something new, something different? These are the questions we are asking ourselves. What do we know? Furnace Fest transcends extended weekends in Alabama because we are a community, friends and family defined not by differences but by similarities of history and passion.
Regardless of what happens beyond 2024, thank you for journeying with us. You’ve brought so much brightness into this season, helping us recover from a global pandemic and far more. Apart from your generous commitment to a dream, none of this would have happened.”
