RTJ Golf Trail’s Ross Bridge course on track to reopen October 13
Reading time: 2 minutes
Last September, the top-rated Ross Bridge Golf Course on the Robert Trent Jones Trail suffered a chemical mishap that forced them to close down. Over a year and a lot of hard work later, the course is scheduled to finally reopen on October 13.

Ross Bridge is one of the country’s top-rated courses
Of all of the courses on the Robert Trent Jones Trail, which encompasses 11 golfing sites across the state of Alabama, Ross Bridge is one of the most highly-acclaimed and picturesque. Named one of the top golf resorts in America by GOLF Magazine and a favorite of Golf Digest editors, the course features 18 holes, two lakes and an 80-foot waterfall.
Making a swift recovery + new changes to the course
According to USA Today Golfweek, the course was damaged due to an incident in which maintenance staff mistook a one-ton bag of herbicide for a bag of green sand and spread it over the course, killing much of the bent grass. As a result, most of the 18-hole course was closed indefinitely.
With the course closed, officials took the opportunity to begin a full course makeover. While the closure was a major financial burden, the silver lining was that officials now had plenty of time to work on making some much-needed changes to the course.
Some of the changes made to the Ross Bridge course include:
- All of the greens replaced with Bermuda grass
- Bunkers made smaller and more shallow
- Cart paths moved closer to greens to reduce walking distance
- Tree work and landscaping
