Online ranking resource Niche recently compiled a list of the 2023 Best Alabama ZIP Codes to Live In, and three Birmingham-area communities made the top ten! Read on to learn more about their criteria and what sets these communities apart.
Top 10 Best Alabama ZIP codes
Niche—a Pittsburgh-based ranking and review site that analyzes and provides information on K–12 schools, colleges, cities, neighborhoods and companies in the U.S.—recently published 2023 Best Alabama ZIP Codes to Live In. Their ranking was based on several criteria, including:
- Cost of living
- Higher education rate
- Public school quality
- Health and fitness
- Walkability
According to Niche, the Top 10 Best Alabama ZIP Codes to Live in are:
- 35758 — Madison and Huntsville
- 35226 — Hoover, Birmingham, Vestavia and Homewood
- 35801 — Huntsville
- 35244 — Hoover, Pelham, Wine Ridge
- 35756 — Madison, Huntsville, Triana, Oakland and Greenbrier
- 36830 — Auburn, Wright Crossroads, The Bottle, Whippoorwill Estates, Woodland
- 35806 — Huntsville
- 35824 — Huntsville
- 35802 — Huntsville
- 35216 — Vestavia Hills, Hoover, Homewood and Mountain Brook

#2 — 35226
Coming in hot at #2 is ZIP code 35226, which encompasses several popular areas west of US-31, such as Bluff Park, Moss Rock Preserve, Ross Bridge and Carisbrooke.
#4 — 35244
At #4 is ZIP code 35244, an area further down US-31 roughly bounded by I-459. Attractions in 35244 include the Hoover Metropolitan Complex, the Riverchase Galleria, the Riverchase Country Club and the Valleydale Village shopping center.
#10 — 35216
At an honorable #10 comes ZIP code 35216, which encompasses much of Vestavia Hills as well as parts of Homewood, Hoover and Mountain Brook. Popular attractions in this area code include Aldridge Gardens, the Vestavia Country Club, the historic Temple of Sibyl and a multitude of shops, restaurants, services and more along US-31.
