On Wednesday, Oct. 28, the City of Homewood invited family, friends, coworkers and more to a new trail and pavilion dedicated to Christina Chambers, an avid runner who tragically passed in 2025. Located along Shades Creek Trail near the soccer fields, “Christina’s Trail” and the new pavilion bring much needed facilities to that end of the popular trail.

A new pavilion is now open near the Homewood Soccer Park along Shades Creek Trail, a popular multi-use path used by walkers, runners, bikers and more. Constructed by the City of Homewood, the new pavilion brings much needed public restrooms to one of the most frequented trailheads along the route.

The pavilion was officially unveiled by the City of Homewood this week, presented alongside the dedication of Christina’s Trail—a section named in memory of the late Christina Chambers. A beloved member of Homewood’s running community, Chambers was a former UAB track athlete, journalist at WBRC and avid runner who could be found most mornings running on Shades Creek Trail.

The Shades Creek Greenway brings 250,000 runners, walkers and cyclists to Homewood annually, and Christina Chambers started every day with her running group at the Green Springs trail head. She lived an extraordinary life and was a beautiful person inside and out.

Jennifer Andress, Mayor, City of Homewood

Chambers tragically passed in late 2025; the dedication of the pavilion and Christina’s Trail occurred on Wednesday, Oct. 28, which would have been Chambers’ 39th birthday.
