One of Birmingham’s most beloved hole-in-the-wall restaurants, Blue Pacific, will be taking a brief hiatus. In a post on their Facebook page yesterday, the restaurant announced that they will be temporarily closing the restaurant beginning August 9 due to a family emergency in Thailand.
Temporarily closed
The announcement posted on Blue Pacific’s Facebook page reads:
“Good afternoon!
We’ve had a family emergency in Thailand that requires my parents to travel back. We are closing the restaurant starting Wednesday August 9th and we will post an update to when we plan to open back up. We are so sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused and we appreciate everyone’s understanding.
Please be on the lookout in the next few weeks on our opening date.
We are so thankful of the support we received from everyone!”

A Birmingham favorite
For those not in-the-know, a gas station may seem like an unlikely spot for amazing Thai food. However, this spot located in The Hoover Food Mart is a Birmingham favorite for authentic Thai cuisine. Owned and operated by the Aroonsakulwongse family, the restaurant serves up family recipes like coconut soup and basil fried rice.
Over the years the spot has received rave reviews, deemed one of Birmingham’s best Thai restaurants and ranked on the 2023 Hoover’s Best list by Hoover Magazine.
Be on the lookout
While the restaurant doesn’t yet have a return date, keep an eye on their Facebook for updates over the next few weeks.
