9 public golf courses to master your swing in + around Birmingham

Whether you consider yourself a pro, or you’re just looking for something fun, there are quite a few public golf courses in and around The Magic City. Get your clubs ready and read on for nine of our favorites.

1. Highland Park

Cclose to Bham classics like Bottega, Jack Brown’s and more, this is one of our favorite public golf courses with spectacular views of the city to enjoy while you play.

2. Bent Brook Golf Club

Just outside of Birmingham, Bent Brook has three 9-hole courses that are challenging, but fun, making you feel like you’re playing at a private club.

3. Ballantrae Golf Club

This semi-private par 72 course is a favorite for both neighborhood residents and visitors, conveniently located just four miles east of I-65 in Pelham. We’re big fans of the snack bar here.

4. Roebuck Municipal Golf Course

Just a few minutes from downtown Birmingham, the historic 19-hole Roebuck Golf Course is perfect for golfers of every skill level. The course has been a Birmingham staple since 1911, so take in the history as you tee off.

5. Frank House Municipal Golf Course

Not too far from Birmingham, this course is a good spot for beginners, with 18 holes and 6,346 yards to play.

6. Oak Mountain State Park Golf Course

Featured in Golf Digest, the golf course at Oak Mountain State Park is super easy to book online and full of gorgeous views. It’s a great choice if you’re looking for something challenging, but affordable.

7. Farm Links Golf Club

Looking for a fun day trip? Farm Links is a little further out from Birmingham, but 100% worth the drive. The views alone make for the perfect round of golf.

8. Oxmoor Valley, Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail

With three separate courses, roller coaster fairways, heavy tree coverage and huge elevation changes, Oxmoor Valley is one of 11 facilities within the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail of Alabama. It’s a must-visit!

9. Horse Creek Golf Course

Horse Creek is a cool course with reasonable fees that won’t break the bank. Located between Birmingham and Jasper, it has a pro shop, a driving range and a delicious snack bar.
