5 Point Public House & Oyster Bar (1210 20th St S, Birmingham, AL 35205) is closing after June 30th, according to a post on the restaurant’s Instagram page.

Bham Now confirmed the closure shortly after the social media story was posted.

The Instagram Post

Below is the Instagram announcement:

After 17 amazing years, we have made the tough decision not to renew the lease of 5 Point Public House & Oyster Bar. From the years of 26 until now, we have been truly grateful for all the incredible staff and customers that have passed through and helped make this place a success. While we are sad to see this chapter end, we are thankful for all the support you have given, and the great times we’ve all experienced here together over the years.

As difficult as this is, we are excited that a good chunk of the 5 Point employees have decided to join the staff at our sister restaurant right next door, Ocean. We are looking forward to the future and cannot wait to see the impact of these wonderful staffs joining together.

Tonight, June 30th, will be our last dinner service at 5 Point Public House & Oyster Bar. Come in and see Lee, Sadie, Arba, and Krynn! Have Jahaad, Gabby, and Juan fry you up some beer battered cheese curds one last time! Grab a beer with Tyler and Clarence at the bar! Let’s make this a night to remember, to go along with 17 years we will never forget!

Staffs Joining Together

One good piece of news from the message? It looks like a number of employees are going to join the staff of Ocean, the sister restaurant next door.

Five Points South Neighborhood Changing

The restaurant scene in the  Five Points South neighborhood continues to evolve. Over the past few years, we’ve seen several memorable restaurants and bars close on the west side of 20th Street, including  J Clyde’sBrennan’s Irish Pub, Little Italy Pizza and Pints and the Waffle House.

Fortunately, Crab Barrack moved into the former Brennan’s site. And this spring,  the legendary  Rocky’s Pizza announced they are moving into Little Italy’s old spot.

Stay tuned

What’s next in Five Points South? The return of Highlands Bar and Grill? Someone moving in the old Waffle House space?
