The Big Game: Legion FC vs. Inter Miami CF—June 7th

It was the shot heard round the soccer world. Legion FC’s Prosper Kasim scored the go-ahead goal against Charlotte FC in the U.S. Open Cup Sweet 16, defeating the  MLS team 1-0  in front of a record crowd at Protective Stadium. What was the atmosphere like?

Legion FC’s Head Coach Tommy Soehn described it best:

“The emotions, the fans, at the last Open Cup Game—the atmosphere, was electric. Phenomenal. I can’t tell you how many times on the field I heard first time fans say “that was just amazing.”

As a result of the big win, the Three Sparks earned the right to host Inter Miami CF, another MLS team owned by one of the most famous soccer players on the planet—David Beckham.

Yes, this is the namesake of the popular film Bend It Like Beckham who is married Victoria aka “Posh Spice.”

Much like the movie Hoosiers, the U.S. Open Cup gives pro soccer teams big and small a chance to play for the 110-year old tournament title.

A win will send our hometown team to the semi-finals.
