You may have heard of STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts and Math), but did you know about all the Birmingham schools and camps that offer courses for your children to become STREAM experts? Now you will. Check out this guide of summer camps around The Magic City to help your kiddos become the little tech geniuses we all aspire to be.

1. STREAM Coding Boot Camp

Birmingham Southern is hosting a six-week course to help improve students’ computer coding skills. The course is divided into the following four tiers:

  • App Development
  • Computer Hardware Repair
  • Teen Tech Innovators
  • Web Design

This camp is designed for rising seventh graders and focuses primarily on building their knowledge of coding language across all STREAM platforms.

2. UAB iD Tech Camps

Birmingham Southern isn’t the only university around that offers their tech-genius brains to the rest of the community. UAB offers various week-long camps such as:

  • Game Design and Development 101
  • JavaScript Coding
  • Python Coding 101
  • Roblox Entrepreneur

Camps last all summer long and spots are filling fast so run, don’t walk to sign up.

  • When: Camps last all summer long starting Monday, June 5
  • Where: UAB
  • Who: Ages 7-17. Course depends on the age.

3. Camp Code

Your children can learn the fundamentals of computer science with these age-appropriate courses offered by Highlands School. Campers can learn the ins and outs of computer programming and make good friends, too.

4. ASFA summer camps

Alabama School of Fine Arts offers multiple video game design and coding courses throughout their jam-packed summer camps. You can see a complete list of camps here.

5. Science Camps at McWane

We all know and love them, and McWane Science Center is the perfect place to send your children for an educational summer week. They have dozens of camps to choose from that are a guaranteed-fun time.

  • When: Camps offered throughout the summer starting Monday, June 12

  • Who: Pre-K-5th grade students
