Putting individuals in front of employers
Not only will a hiring expo like this place individuals with disabilities in front of employers, the goal is also to inspire and empower employers to consider hiring more of the disability community.
“I am proud that Horizons School is co-hosting a disability-inclusive Hiring Expo with Jefferson State Community College. This event gives us an opportunity to showcase the unique abilities and talents of our students and the larger disability community, and to help break down the barriers that often prevent people with disabilities from fully participating in the workforce.
Together, we are creating a more inclusive and equitable society, where everyone has the chance to achieve their full potential.”
Cierra Dunbarr, Marketing And Development Manager, The Horizons School
The Horizons School is setting students up for success
Many Horizons students earn career certificates and enroll in community college. The majority of the school’s graduates successfully live independently, manage personal needs and maintain paid employment.
The school sets up young adults with learning disabilities for success through ways including:
- teaching them to manage personal health and leisure time
- helping them to follow a daily schedule, live within a budget and prepare daily meals
- guiding them to develop friendships, use public transit, and prepare for employment
