The age-old rivalry continues! (Bham Now)

Ready to don your maroon or gold this weekend? If you’re planning your day Birmingham for The Magic City Classic—October 29—this age-old rivalry wouldn’t be complete without dining like a local.

We’ve teamed up with Regions Bank to share their four favorite spots that are perfect for your Birmingham itinerary. Because who said the fun had to end when the game does?

1. Breakfast – East of the Mississippi Diner | Ensley

Follow the motto that breakfast is the most important meal of the day? There’s no better place to get the hype going than East of the Mississippi. Located in Birmingham’s Ensley neighborhood, this local spot serves up all of the breakfast and lunch classics, just like your grandma used to make.

Go sweet with fluffy waffles and pancakes or go savory with sausage, eggs and grits. No matter what you choose, everyone is family here.

Our pick: Their bone-in chicken and waffles + the Cowboy breakfast. If you’re coming for lunch, try the oxtails!

2. Lunch – SOCU Southern Kitchen | Downtown

If you’re craving a mix of Southern comfort and specially-crafted menu items, head to SOCU Oyster Kitchen in The Pizitz Food Hall. Here you’ll find classic oyster dishes, seafood and Southern classics with a twist. We tried the Chicken and Waffles, Lobster Deviled Eggs and Shrimp + Grits. Talk about a lunch!

Swing by between 4-6PM on weekdays to try their seasonal Happy Hour menus.

Our pick: the Chicken and Waffles. They were light and fluffy and the chicken was well seasoned—everything you want in chicken and waffles.

3. Dinner – Chez Fonfon | Five Points South

Looking to enjoy an evening in the lively Five Points South neighborhood? Make a reservation at Chez Fonfon. It’ll have you transported to a Parisian café in seconds with their ambiance, menu and friendly service. They’ve been in the neighborhood for over 22 years and serve up French and American delicacies handcrafted by Chef Frank Stitt.

Our pick: The Venison with sweet potato gratin, brandy and muscadine jus 32. It’s raised in New Zealand + has bright and bold flavors for pure satisfaction. Don’t forget their famous coconut cake for dessert!

4. Drinks – The Lumbar | Pepper Place

There’s no better place to celebrate a win than The Lumbar. This local spot combines a love of science with handmade cocktails and mocktails. With seasonal menus and drinks served in fun glasses, The Lumbar will have you coming back for something new every time. On their menu right now—Halloween drinks like the Kamikaze Zombie, the Frankenstein and The Ghost Rider.

While you’re enjoying your drinks, munch on a few after-party snacks like the Tetris Tots or the Dickel Bites. They’re perfect to balance out the sweet drinks. Plus, you can never go wrong sitting outside under the Pepper Place lights.

Our pick: The Frankenstein + the Jalepeno Gochujang Wings.
