After two seasons affected by the pandemic, we’re celebrating because the Alabama Symphony Orchestra (ASO) is welcoming everyone back to the concert hall for an amazing full season of concerts! From the Masterworks Series with some of the ASO’s most notable conductors to The SuperPOPS! series featuring the iconic music of 70s rock band Queen, you won’t want to miss what’s in store for the 22/23 season.

Highlights from the Masterworks Series

1. West Side Story Symphonic Dances

Prepare to tap your toes during this concert that celebrates the jazzy, Latin rhythms of West Side Story. Bonus: the concert features the world premiere of the Hammond Organ Concerto by Birmingham native Brian Raphael Nabors.

2. Brahms’ Fourth Symphony

If you’re a fan of Maestro Carlos Izcaray, this concert is a must-attend. This will be the first performance of his new Requiem. It will be performed alongside the tragically beautiful and melancholy work featured in Brahms ‘Fourth Symphony.

3. Holst’s – The Planets

The chance to experience space without having to leave Earth… count me in! In this robust and captivating concert, the ASO takes you on an exploration of the solar system through works from Avner Dorman’s Astrolatry.

4. Beethoven’s Third Symphony, Eroica

Hear some of Ludwig van Beethoven’s most revolutionary works from his Eroica (Heroic) Symphony during this fall concert series. The series also kicks off a year-long exploration of Magic City native Brian Raphael Nabors with his Letters from Birmingham.

5. The Music of Queen

The ASO will rock you just like Freddie Mercury and Queen once did during The SuperPOPS! series The Music of Queen. During this unforgettable concert, the ASO will bridge the gap between rock n’ roll and classical music with an amplified rock band and vocals, so expect Queen’s iconic tunes with an unmistakable ASO twist.

7. Fire & Rain: Folk Anthems of the 70s

The ASO takes you back to the 70s in this special concert with duo Swearingen & Kelli. Expect a beautiful collection of classics by artists of the time like James Taylor, Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Cat Stevens, America, Jim Croce, Fleetwood Mac and more.
