Over 21? Prepare for a fiery night on Friday, August 19 during Dragon Fest 2022, McWane Science Center’s 21+ only event. From dancing and D&D games to beer tastings and more, there’s no time to be dragon your tail—read on for what this event is all about, then grab your tickets.
1. You’ll discover the Lost World of Dragons Exhibit
If you’re mesmerized by dragons, there’s no better opportunity to boost your knowledge of these beloved magic creatures than at Dragon Fest.
During the event, you’ll have a front-row view of McWane’s latest, and most ferocious, exhibit—The Lost World of Dragons. The immersive exhibit takes you on an interactive exploration where you’ll:
- Discover life-size animatronic dragons.
- Learn about dragon mythology and its origins around the globe.
- Invent your own dragon stories by creating unique, stop-motion animated videos.
- Use your imagination and design your own dragon origin myth with sound and lighting effects.
- And more!

2. There will be a Dragon Tavern with beer tastings
Need another reason to attend Dragon Fest? The delicious adult beverages are sure to draw you in.
During the event, visit the Dragon Tavern for beer tastings with these local Birmingham-area breweries:
- District Brewing
- Goat Island
- Good People
Each person will receive 10 drink tickets to be used for brewery tasting samples.
Bars will also be set up with alcoholic drinks for purchase.

3. You’ll become a D&D master
You can’t have Dragon Fest without some Dungeons & Dragons action. The event will feature D&D Rooms so you can join in on games, level up your character and more.

Bonus: D&D’s not the only game to experience during Dragon Fest. There will be lots more board games set up to play.
4. You’ll be able to explore the museum + be a kid again
Just because you’re in the 21+ group, doesn’t mean you can’t experience childlike wonder. During Dragon Fest, you’ll have the chance to explore the museum’s many Adventure Halls, each filled with hands-on scientific fun.
5. You can show off your best dance moves
Along with the great activities mentioned above, there will be lots of dancing, too. DJ Rod will be there mixing event-themed music all evening long, so prepare to release your best dance moves.
Psst! There will also be a costume contest, so be sure to dress up.
