Find your treasure
Something that makes Off The Beaten Path so special is that when you walk through the doors, you’re instantly welcomed like family. That’s exactly what owner Cindy Berry loves about her quaint antique shop.
“We’ve lived in McCalla for about 30 years, so we love supporting our local community. The shop is the perfect size for me to have a relationship with all of my vendors. They’re like family. Our customers are the same way. We still have first-time customers that come in every day, but we definitely have an established clientele and it’s fun when they walk in and get hugs and love each other.”

After working in sales her entire life, Cindy never expected to find herself with the business she’s currently owned for eight years. With just three months of running a vendor booth of her own under her belt, she took the risk and opened Off The Beaten Path.
The bustling antique shop quickly outgrew its original building, with a growing waitlist for vendors just six months after opening. Cindy and her husband found the perfect plot of land to expand their business off Old Tuscaloosa Hwy in McCalla, where the shop is currently located.
“I’ve learned that you’re never too old to start something you love. I’m not young and I wasn’t young when I started this. My kids were in college when I started this business. You’re never too old to pursue a dream.”

Take a look inside
Off The Beaten Path is a 4,000 sq. ft. building that houses 50 unique spaces for vendor booths. Each booth features different products from locally-made furniture to household goods, and of course, plenty of antique pieces.
You’re bound to find something new every week as vendors regularly update their inventory. As I toured the space, I saw a wide range of products to get excited about.
After eight years owning a business that specializes in antique goods, Cindy has seen some pretty cool stuff over the years.
“I’ve found memorabilia from The Beatles that you don’t see often, it was a rare magazine print. We had some Elvis memorabilia come in the other day. One piece that we had for a long time was a brass telephone from the 1970s, it was on a stand about three feet tall, really ornate. It was with us for a while because it had a good price on it since we’d never seen one before. Big antique pieces that you don’t see all the time are always fun.”

I especially loved one booth called “Pressed for Time” that featured art made from beautiful pressed flowers. Whether you’re looking for a gift or something special for yourself, there’s a little something for everybody.
