Boom, roasted (coffee)! Gardendale is getting a specialty coffee shop + roaster with Santos Coffee moving into the neighborhood. This new spot will replace the Wendy’s that shut down in 2020 and will bring a new vibrancy to the space.

Planning to offer dine-in, drive through and local delivery, there’s no excuse to not add this local coffee shop to your morning routine. Watch out, Gardendale—Santos plans to open in 2023.

2. The Crab Barrack | Five Points South

In 2021, we announced that The Crab Barrack would take the place of the former Brennan’s Irish Pub. The Crab Barrack is open now so start tying on those Lobster bibs, Birmingham.

The Crab Barrack is a local chain serving up fresh seafood and sushi. If you’re looking to make dinner plans in Five Points South, this is the perfect new spot to try.

As a Huntsville staple, many Huntsville-natives-turned Birminghamians rejoiced in the news of Honest Coffee Roasters coming to Birmingham. If we’re being honest, Birmingham locals are rejoicing at the fact that now there will be coffee in The Pizitz.

Honest Coffee Roasters focuses on *honestly* sharing the origins of their coffee; working alongside hardworking farmers to bring you the freshest, most flavorful coffee, coffee beverages and beans. Check them out in early 2023.

4. Bendy’s Cookies and Cream | Trussville

There’s no more deciding between cookies and ice cream… when you can just have both. Enjoy favorites like Blueberry Cheesecake, Banana Pudding and Cookie Butter served with a fresh-baked cookie. It never disappoints.

5. La Quinta | Chelsea

The City of Chelsea just broke ground on their first hotel, a La Quinta.

According to a recent article by the Shelby County Reporter, the new hotel will have four stories with 82 rooms. They’re hoping the project will be completed in August-September 2023, with site work starting within the summer.

This paves the way for travel and tourism to the city of Chelsea, and we couldn’t be happier for them.

“It’s amazing to see the growth that’s coming through Shelby County. It’s also exciting news from a state standpoint…Shelby County and Chelsea are a huge part of that growth, and you all are going to continue to see more growth. Congratulations on what you’re doing as a city and a community.”

– Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth (as quoted in the Shelby County Reporter)

6. Otey’s Tavern + Frothy Monkey | Homewood

Late last week, we reported that two Birmingham favorites are headed south to Homewood. Newcomer Frothy Monkey and restaurant veteran Otey’s Tavern will be moving into the Homewood Antiques space in Edgewood as early as 2023.

Red Rock Realty Group acquired the space in late 2021 and is looking forward to enhancing the Edgewood strip by adding delicious coffee and pub food perfect for a post-work hang. Construction on the exterior of the Oxmoor-facing buildings will begin later this July.

We’re fresh out of openings, Birmingham. To follow along as we aim to try ALL of these new businesses, follow us on Instagram and TikTok.
