U.S. Lacrosse and Flying Disc teams play for gold today at The World Games 2022

Practice your U-S-A! cheer Birmingham — two U.S. national teams are playing for gold medals today at The World Games 2022 in Lacrosse and Flying Disc.

U.S. vs. Canada Rematch 

On Friday afternoon, the U.S. Women’s Lacrosse team easily beat Great Britain 21-5  advancing to the Saturday evening finals against arch-rival Canada.

The medal games are now set for Saturday evening at PNC Field on the campus of UAB, beginning with the bronze medal match between Australia and Great Britain starting at  —7:00PM. The gold medal game is the nightcap.

Earlier this week, in front of a noisy pro-USA crowd in The Magic City, the Canadian Men’s Lacrosse team defeated the U.S. for the gold. 

Even though Canada is known for hockey — Lacrosse is actually the official Canadian national game for summer (we looked it up – here)

Will the U.S. Women win the rematch? Stay tuned.

Flying Disc Finals at John Carroll HS

The other big  gold medal game on the slate today is Flying Disc out at John Carroll High School.

On Friday, the U.S. secured a spot in the finals by defeating Columbia in a close match-up — 13 to 11.   

The U.S. will be taking on Australia who reached the gold medal round by winning another tight match 13 to 12 against Germany. 

The medal games today begin at 4:00PM for the bronze between Columbia and Germany. The championship game is around 6:00PM. Visit The World Games 2022 for ticket info.

For Team USA. fans — I recommend you checking out the USA Ultimate website which has the team roster. You can also visit the World Flying Disc Federation website to watch the semi-finals and earlier games.

Come Out Today

Nothing beats watching the gold medal games, especially when the U.S. is involved. Come out today and cheer for the home team!

And remember – there are many more games left, including the finals of the waterski and wake board, ju-jitsu and tug of war.
